A Bit About Bibi

"Inman Quarter restaurant Delbar will open a sister establishment, Bibi, in Ponce City Market's Central Food Hall this summer. Owner Fares Kargar, originally from Gorgan, Iran, grew up cooking with his mother, aunts, and grandmother. The name Bibi is roughly translated to mean a strong female community leader, so this is an homage to Kargar's family. Kargar came to the United States to earn a degree in hospitality from Georgia State University and later go on to open his first restaurant Delbar."

Fares Kargar's journey from his early days in Iran to becoming a celebrated restaurateur in Atlanta is a testament to his resilience, passion for hospitality, and deep-rooted commitment to sharing his culture through food.

At just 17, Fares sought refuge in the U.S., settling in Atlanta, Georgia. His introduction to the restaurant industry began as a busser at Luciano's in Duluth, where he quickly immersed himself in the fast-paced world of hospitality. Despite having no prior experience, his dedication and work ethic propelled him into roles of increasing responsibility.

While working multiple jobs to support himself, Fares pursued a bachelor's degree in hospitality at Georgia State University. During this time, he worked at multiple great and well-known restaurants around Atlanta, gaining valuable experience in both front-of-house and management roles. His leadership and deep understanding of restaurant operations further fueled his ambition to create a dining experience that celebrated his Persian heritage.

In May 2020, Fares brought that vision to life with the opening of Delbar in Inman Park, which quickly gained acclaim for its vibrant Persian and Middle Eastern flavors, paired with a warm, welcoming ambiance. Building on this success, he expanded with a second Delbar location in Alpharetta, followed by Delbar Buckhead, which opened in late 2024. In addition, he launched Bibi Persian Eatery, a Persian fast-casual concept in Ponce City Market, and is currently preparing to debut an all-new concept, Eden, in winter of 2025.

From his humble beginnings as a busser to shaping Atlanta's culinary landscape, Fares continues to push boundaries while staying true to his roots. His story is one of perseverance, passion, and the belief that food has the power to bring people together.
